The California Waterfowl Association (CWA) has been an ardent supporter of the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge for years. Not only have their efforts brought attention to the refuge, but CWA has also been supportive of habitat restoration efforts in Lower Klamath.

Receiving Federal recognition in May of 1978, the Modoc Nation is made up of the descendants of Captain Jack’s Band of Modoc Indians that were forcibly removed to Baxter Springs, Kansas. The Klamath Bird Observatory works on collaborative conservation planning while nurturing community outreach and education, including the Common Waterbirds of the Klamath Basin guide book they generously donated to Lower Klamath Renaissance Tour guests.

Liskey Farms

Located on Lower Klamath Lake Road, Liskey Farms’ owner Tracey Liskey and his family have been farming in the Klamath Basin for four generations. Mr. Liskey is a KDD board member and currently serves as president of the Klamath Water Users Association board. He was also instrumental in creating Gone Fishing, which eventually evolved into the C’waam and Koptu rearing facilities now known as the Klamath Falls National Fish Hatchery.

The Klamath Basin Audubon Society provides a variety of programs including birdwatching tours, talks, and exhibits to give locals and visitors to the Klamath Basin the opportunity to “appreciate our region’s wildlife, focusing on birds and other natural resources.”

Matt Brimmer

Mr. Brimmer is a member of the California Waterfowl Association, the Klamath Basin Chapter of Delta Waterfowl, and the Cal-Ore Wetlands and Waterfowl Council. Mr. Brimmer is an ardent advocate for Tule Lake and Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuges.

The Friends of Klamath Basin Birding “advocate for birds of the Klamath Basin in all matters” through a variety avenues including education, promoting events and fundraisers, and working with non-birding partners to find common ground to benefit our feathered friends. Neighboring the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge in what was part of Lower Klamath Lake (and a part of the Modoc homelands), the Klamath Drainage District (KDD) provides water to 27,000 acres in the district. Over the years, KDD has been a leader in sustainable agriculture in the Klamath Project and a supporter of LKNWR

Mary Williams Hyde is a Klamath Basin photographer and bird advocate. Along with the Lower Klamath Renaissance Tour committee, she also lends her knowledge and camera to groups including the Friends of Klamath Basin Birding and the Klamath Bird Observatory.

Loree Johnson is a landscape photographer turned wildlife photographer based in Dorris, California. When she’s not behind the lens getting shots of birds, she manages the newsletter for the Friends of Klamath Basin Birding and is on the Lower Klamath Renaissance Tour planning committee.

Dr. Wenner and his wife, Anne, are one of several owners of Lakeside Farm. The farm is part of a wetlands project the Wenners embarked on to show how ag and native ecosystems can benefit one another. The Wenners are also involved in Klamath Basin conservation groups, including the Tule Smoke Hunt Club (aka the Rat Club), the Klamath Watershed Partnership, the Klamath Basin Audubon Society, and the former Winter Wings Festival.

Ducks Unlimited has been involved in waterfowl conservation efforts all throughout the Upper Klamath Basin, including ensuring Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge received water in the spring of 2024. The Klamath Water Users Association (KWUA) advocates on behalf of Klamath Irrigation Project family farmers and ranchers in the Klamath Basin.  KWUA works with a variety of stakeholders and governmental organizations at the state and federal level to ensure irrigated agriculture continues in the Klamath Basin.
